Pouya’s instrument has been the piano since his childhood in Iran. He pursued his passion further in Canada, where he accomplished advanced studies in piano performance and composition. The Royal Conservatory of Music, the arts program at the Earl Haig Secondary School, and the University of Toronto comprised his formal musical education. Pouya holds two Bachelor’s degrees from the University Toronto, one in Composition and the other in Piano Performance. This musical background provided him with a base in music history and theory, as well as hands-on experience in collaboration with other musicians, all of which would influence his many other musical endeavours.
One of Pouya’s professional outlets has been composing for music and film. He has employed diverse instrumentations, from a 12-piece string orchestra to Persian traditional instruments, for his soundtracks in various motion picture genres such as animation, documentary, fiction, feature film, and commercial advertising. He is also the composer, co-founder, and pianist of Ladom Ensemble, a multicultural performance group showcasing original contemporary classical compositions inspired by Persian, Balkan, and other world musics. In Sacred Balance he plays the same roles, creating an intense electronic rock experience along the lines of Radiohead. Recording these groups has been a very enriching experience, one that influenced Pouya in his current career direction. Pouya is currently pursuing the Master’s program in Sound Recording at McGill University, where his previous interest and experimentation with recording, music production, and sound engineering are being honed into highly advanced skills.
